Éléonore transformed her master bedroom by creating an open space with a bathroom and prioritising natural daylight.

Living in a modern duplex apartment with her son and her dog, Éléonore decided to transform her personal space into a true haven. But this transformation involved many challenges... She explains how she managed to overcome the hurdles of this significant refurbishment by creating a bathroom open onto the bedroom, all the while prioritising natural daylight and ensuring optimal insulation and ventilation throughout the seasons.

Her living space benefits from natural cross daylight and offers direct access to her bedroom with an adjoining bathroom. Thanks to the glass partitions installed between the two rooms, she shows us how she has managed to optimise the influx of natural daylight and to keep a spacious room, while avoiding any humidity issues. In terms of style, she chose to integrate wall paintings with graphic inspirations on the walls of her bedroom, a pattern that is repeated on the bathroom floor tiles. To facilitate the use of her VELUX roof window, she has installed an automatic system with a connected remote control.

Éléonore enjoys spending time in her bedroom to relax with a book or her dog, but also to work. She always gets ready in her bathroom, taking advantage of the natural daylight. In the evening, the shutters guarantee complete darkness. This setup ensures optimal privacy for her, day and night, and a suitable temperature throughout the year... She even confides that she has reduced her energy consumption!

"I find that the installation of this roof window has brought much more daylight to the room and it feels really good."

Éléonore, a designer with a thousand ideas

Éléonore lives in this duplex apartment with Camille, her son, and Chewbacca, her small dog. She enjoys relaxing by reading a book and is very attached to her pet, who never fails to join her to also enjoy the natural daylight that streams through the room thanks to the VELUX roof window. She also sometimes settles in the comfort of her bedroom to work in peace.

Her living room is very bright, as it benefits from daylight. It offers direct access to the highlight of Éléonore's apartment: a night area with an open bathroom onto the bedroom. For this space, the goal of this talented designer was to create a warm and pleasant room. She likes to relax there, and sometimes it also serves as her office. Therefore, she needs to feel comfortable in it. To create a room in her own image, she opted for a graphic style on the walls of the bedroom area by integrating squares of different colors. She decided to create her own design by repeating this style on the floor tiles of the bathroom.

Éléonore's graphic design adds a stylish touch to her bathroom and bedroom with colorful squares.

The advantages of an open bathroom

An open bathroom offers numerous advantages. And, in Éléonore's home, nothing is left to chance: in this dual-purpose room, the two areas are separated by glass partitions placed on each side of the large central opening. Éléonore chose not to use any doors in order to maintain the influx of natural daylight in both the bathroom and the bedroom. By completely rethinking the layout and adding storage, she has not lost any space.

Moreover, the roof window ensures that natural light passes through, increasing brightness during the day. Éléonore has also opted for an automatic opening and closing system for simplified daily use. This also allows her to enjoy a subdued atmosphere at dusk.

With Éléonore, every problem has its solution

Being a duplex, Éléonore's apartment had to be carefully arranged to let in as much daylight as possible. This was also the case for the bedroom-bathroom. That's why Éléonore opted for a VELUX roof window. This way, she can let in natural light while maintaining her privacy. Despite the height, there's no need for Éléonore to stand on tiptoes: she just has to use her connected remote control and crack open her window to air out the room. This design also allows her to fight humidity: ventilation is ideal for summer, and insulation is optimised for cooler days.

To further maximise the amount of natural light, Éléonore favoured the use of roof windows, which serve a dual function as they also allow for a real gain in space.

Before embarking on the design of this master bedroom with bathroom, Éléonore also had to carry out plumbing work to extend the water supply lines, and to be able to install the shower and a sink. Once these elements were in place, the goal was to prevent the bathroom area from causing too much humidity in the room. That's why Éléonore's choice fell on a roof window which she can open after taking her shower to sufficiently ventilate the room.

From an aesthetic point of view, one of the biggest challenges was to visually harmonise these two spaces with distinct functions. To achieve this, she created her own graphic pattern by painting squares of different colours on the bedroom walls, and repeated this design on the bathroom floor tiles. Thus, the overall style remains consistent, while keeping the functionality and purpose of each room separate.

The advantages of a VELUX roof window

Choosing a VELUX roof window has first and foremost allowed Éléonore to preserve her privacy. She has no direct opposite neighbours, day or night, so she is free to move around this room with complete peace of mind. Since her apartment is a duplex, ventilating the room could be difficult. The VELUX roof window solves this problem with a single click...Thanks to the automatic opening and closing system, Éléonore can quickly ventilate the space by simply using the connected remote control. Moreover, she can choose the ideal opening angle, depending on the outside temperature. Among the many advantages of this solution, Éléonore also mentions the reduction of her energy consumption, in summer as well as in winter. Her external shutters provide optimal insulation during the coldest periods of the year.

Designing an open bathroom in the bedroom

Éléonore shares her tips for designing an open bathroom in a bedroom: To avoid humidity issues, it is crucial to choose an appropriate ventilation system, such as the VELUX roof window. Also, to properly separate the bed area from the bathroom, do not hesitate to add storage. It is important to maintain a visual consistency between the two spaces: Éléonore chose a pattern and colours that she integrated into both rooms. Lastly, this solution offers a significant environmental and financial advantage, as natural daylight allows you to reduce your electricity consumption.
