Sustainability
At the VELUX Group we work continually to integrate sustainability into decision making and how we run our business.
We want to drive change
VELUX roof windows are all about transforming spaces to enhance well-being and create healthy indoor spaces. Since the company was founded in 1941, we have worked to create products that are both functional and useful for society. With our sector responsible for 37% of global CO2 emissions and one in three Europeans living with poor indoor climate, it is more important than ever that our products make a positive difference for society. We see an urgent need to deliver sustainable, healthy and affordable buildings and we want to be part of this change.
EcoVadis 2023 gold sustainability rating
We hold ourselves accountable to our sustainability targets and initiatives by seeking independent assessments of our progress. The EcoVadis sustainability performance rating is a reliable and trusted assessment based on international sustainability standards. In 2023, VELUX was awarded gold, placing us in the top 30 companies rated in our EcoVadis category. We were recognised as having a best in-class carbon management system in addition to strong decarbonisation ambitions with approved science-based targets.
Made to last
All VELUX windows are built to last and can remain in roofs for at least three decades. What’s more, they are easy to maintain and repair. We source 99% of the wood used in our products from forest partners certified to the responsible forest management standards FSC and PEFC which require adherence to environmental and social principles.
Our sustainability ambitions
We work continually to integrate sustainability into decision making and how we run our business – from the suppliers we choose, to our production methods right until the end-of-life handling of our products. It’s also at the core of our strategy, which has bold ambitions in our three focus areas.

Rethinking the way we build
As part of an industry that accounts for over a third of the global CO2 emissions, we want to be part of finding ways to build more sustainably. Through our Build for Life project and Living Places concept, we aim to lead the way within the building industry and show how rethinking buildings can help solve some of the global climate and health challenges we face.

Partnering with WWF
We finance forest projects that reduce and remove carbon equivalent of our historical CO2 emissions. The projects are designed and delivered by WWF.
