We got to know a family that lives a comfortable life in an airy apartment with plenty of daylight

In the extensive real estate market, the family looked at numerous apartments, so they decided to give a chance to a newly built property outside the wider centre of Zagreb. The offered apartment did not suit them, but by chance, they found an apartment in the same neighbourhood, which won them over at first sight.;

"The new complex of buildings immediately reminded me of home, and it features properties with pitched roofs and a large number of roof windows, which is what immediately won us over", explains the owner Iva, not hiding her satisfaction with the choice.

"Living in this space has many advantages because it truly provides the feeling of being in a house. I can say that this is life under a clear sky, because the very sight of the sky is calming."

It is an apartment that is much more spacious than the previous one, not only because of the larger square footage, but also because of the sloped ceilings under which it is also possible to live well. Since the square footage under a sloped ceiling is not calculated in the same way, the advantage is that more square footage is obtained for a lower price. Important rooms such as the children’s rooms and the dining room on the first floor and the bedroom with the associated spa bathroom on the second floor are located precisely under those slopes. And as a special surprise in the apartment, which won them over, there is a gallery space with a height of 7 metres. In addition to the workspace, there is also a corner for enjoying reading, and the gallery offers a bird’s-eye view of all the inhabitants of this beautiful home full of daylight.

"The new home is considerably larger than the previous one in terms of square footage, and it is a two-storey apartment with several living areas. I especially like these separate zones because each of us can have our own kind of comfort. For example, the children have a separate area where their rooms and bathroom are located, and where they can freely play and enjoy their daily activities" – Iva said honestly.

Then, there is the master bedroom with a separate bathroom; and a separate open space where the kitchen, dining room, and living room are located. Most of the family activities take place in the centre of the apartment with an open floor plan of 45 square metres.

The owner of the apartment spends her time there cooking, spending time with her family in the living room, where they watch television, and socialising with friends also takes place here.

My first entry into the apartment was a “wow” moment. I immediately imagined how my reading corner would be in that place – points out Iva.

Under the blue sky

Living in a new apartment represents a life under the blue sky, where they can observe the clouds and nature all day long, even in gloomy weather. A special pleasure for them is the morning sun gently settling on the table in their dining room, just in time for the family breakfast. With plenty of daylight, the plants in the new apartment are much happier. The owner of the apartment proudly points out how all the love invested in taking care of the plants is rewarded here with lush greenery, which was not the case in the previous apartment.

"Living in this space has many advantages because it truly provides the feeling of being in a house. I can say that this is life under a clear sky, because the very sight of the sky is calming. I am also a big lover of plants, which unfortunately didn’t do well in my old apartment, and now I see that the reason was the lack of daylight, which is abundant here thanks to the roof windows."

The three-member Milković family was expecting the arrival of a new member, which motivated them to start searching for a new home. They had outgrown their existing property and needed a new home with more square footage and rooms to meet the needs of their soon-to-be four-member family.

In the extensive real estate market, the family looked at numerous apartments, so they decided to give a chance to a newly built property outside the wider centre of Zagreb. The offered apartment did not suit them, but by chance, they found an apartment in the same neighbourhood, which won them over at first sight.

"The new complex of buildings immediately reminded me of home, and it features properties with pitched roofs and a large number of roof windows, which is what immediately won us over" – explains the owner Iva, not hiding her satisfaction with the choice.

Unjustified fear of high bills

In their perception, more square footage meant higher energy consumption for heating and cooling the space. However, the fear of such a scenario proved unjustified after the first winter in this new building. Indeed, the consumption in the new, twice as large apartment is delightfully half of what it was before. Excellent insulation of walls and roofs, along with professional installation of roof windows and other openings, has contributed to achieving savings. In addition, in the winter months, the heat of the sun heats up the space; and the use of external blinds reduces the penetration of sunlight by as much as 90%, thereby significantly reducing the summer temperature in the apartment.

Advantages of VELUX smart control

The owners love of cooking has been rounded off by a pleasant atmosphere in which all the household members enjoy daily socialising, made even better by a special feature of the gallery roof window. Equipped with VELUX ACTIVE indoor control sensors, the window automatically opens when the CO2 levels are too high, making the air in the space much more pleasant and healthy.

When buying this apartment, my husband studied all the features and possibilities of VELUX roof windows and equipped them with various accessories, such as external blinds and mosquito nets; and they are also equipped with rain sensors. In the family's busy everyday life, this gives them a special feeling of satisfaction and peace. Namely, when leaving the house, parents with small children are often forgetful, but the rain cannot surprise them because the windows will react by automatically closing as soon as the first drops appear.

"The pace of today’s life is such that few of us have enough time to stay at home and enjoy the little things and relaxation" – said Iva – "I make an effort to spend as much time as possible on weekends with my family so that we can truly dedicate ourselves to enjoying this beautiful space and ambiance."
