When Jan and Maria decided to renovate their newly built attic, they envisioned a fun and inviting space for their children. However, the dark and enclosed loft felt disconnected from the rest of the house. With the addition of roof windows, they transformed the attic into a light-filled kids' room, creating a space where their children could play, learn, and relax.

Overcoming the challenges of attic living

Jan and Maria were well aware of the typical pitfalls of attic living - small, stuffy spaces that were too hot in summer and too cold in winter. Their friends and family weren't convinced it was a good idea.

Doubts and concerns from friends and family

"Many thought it wouldn't work," Jan recalls. "They told us the space would be too dark, too hot in summer, and too cold in winter." Despite the concerns, the couple remained determined. They saw potential in the attic and wanted to find a way to make it comfortable. "We knew it was going to be a challenge, but we were ready to take it on," Maria says.

Finding a solution with roof windows

After consulting with an architect, Jan and Maria realised that roof windows could be the key to unlocking the attic's full potential. They saw firsthand how VELUX roof windows could solve their biggest concerns, providing both daylight and insulation. "The architect explained how roof windows would flood the space with daylight while improving airflow. That changed everything for us," Maria says.

Once installed, the transformation was remarkable. The attic went from a dim and unused area to a bright and welcoming kids' room. "The space instantly felt larger and more open," Jan explains. "And the fresh air made it so much more comfortable."

A comfortable indoor climate all year round

Jan and Maria quickly noticed the difference roof windows made in regulating temperature. "We were worried about how the space would handle seasonal changes, but the windows are incredibly efficient. With proper insulation and ventilation, the attic stays comfortable throughout the year," explains Jan.

The transformation exceeded their expectations. "It's amazing how the room stays cool in summer and warm in winter," Maria says. They also appreciate the practical features, like rain sensors that automatically close the windows when the weather changes. "It gives us peace of mind, knowing the room is always protected," she adds.

What once felt like a compromise has turned into a real joy. "We now have the best of both worlds - plenty of light, fresh air, and the comfort of being indoors," Maria reflects.

A space for play, imagination, and the sky above

For the kids, the newly renovated attic quickly became the most exciting place in the house. "They call it their 'sky room' because they can see the clouds during the day and the stars at night," Maria says with a smile. The ever-changing view outside adds to the magic, turning the room into a world of imagination and adventure.

Bringing the outdoors inside

A strong connection to nature has made this space even more special for the family. "The kids love being outside," Maria adds. "Now, even when we're indoors, it still feels like nature is part of their daily routine." Whether basking in sunlight while playing on the floor or drifting off under a starlit sky, the attic has become a haven for both fun and relaxation.
