Rescue openings
According to the building regulations, rescue openings must be located and designed in such a way that people have the opportunity to make themselves known to the rescue team and can be rescued via the rescue team's ladders or by their own help.

If a skylight is used as an escape opening, the Collection of Examples on Fire Safety in Buildings specifies the following:
Rescuing people through a rescue opening can be done if it has a free height and width of 1.5 m in total, where the height is at least 0.6 m and the width is at least 0.5 m. In roof areas where it may be difficult to reach the rescue opening, it will be an advantage if the rescue opening in the open position has a free height that is not less than 0.8 m when the floor on the top floor is more than 9.6 m above ground level, as the rescue team must use a motor ladder in these cases.

In roof areas where it may be difficult to reach the rescue opening, it will be an advantage that the rescue opening in the open position has a clear height of not less than 0.8 m when the floor on the top floor is more than 9.6 m above ground level, as the rescue team must use a motor ladder in these cases.
It is also important that escape hatches can be opened easily and unhindered from the inside without the use of a key or special tools, and are held in a position that allows free passage from both the inside and the outside. Sunshades and the like must therefore not prevent the use of escape hatches.
Finally, it should be ensured that the rescue openings are placed at a distance from the floor so that people can reach them and be rescued through the openings. Most people will be able to get out of a rescue opening that is placed at a distance from the floor to the bottom edge of the rescue openings of up to 1.2 m. Alternatively, a fixed step or other means can be established so that the rescue opening can be reached from the inside.
